A group of eight Gunnel Nyman glass vases

A group of eight glass vases, five yellow and three purple with controlled bubbles designed by Swedish-Finnish Glass artist Gunnel Nyman for Nuutajärvi-Notsjö in Finland during the 1940’s. Finland. Albeit her career was cut short due to illness, Gunnel Nyman (1909-48) was one of the founders of modern glass design in Finland. She began as a furniture designer in the 1930s but quickly became facinated by glass during that decade. Internal bubbles are inherent in glass production and the blower often seeks to eliminate them. Instead, Nyman made a virtue of such bubbles and used then in a deliberate way to enhance her subtle shapes. In her short life she produced a dozen of so designs in the 1940s like this one that have gone on to become some of the greatest and most iconic pieces of Finnish glass. This group comprises different sizes and two colours to create a perfectly balanced collection to enhance your home.
