A pair of Alvar Aalto “Beehive” ceiling lamps

A rare pair of Alvar Aalto ceiling lamps A331 “Beehive”, originally designed in 1953 for Jyväskylä University—an icon of Finnish lighting. Produced by Valaisinpaja Oy in the 1960s, each lamp has a white-lacquered metal body with elegant brass spacer rings that create a soft, layered glow. Fitted with porcelain bulb holders and retaining the original canopies, the pair offers a beautifully balanced, architectural presence—eye-catching yet calm, and perfect to hang symmetrically over a table, in a hallway, or as matching statement lights.

Alvar Aalto

Alvar Aalto (1898–1976) was a Finnish architect and designer, widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in modern architecture and design. His work spans a variety of fields, including architecture, furniture design, and industrial design. Aalto’s style is known for its humanistic approach, blending functionalism with organic forms inspired by nature. This marked a departure from the rigid, geometric forms of early modernist architecture, creating spaces and objects that were not only functional but also responsive to human needs and emotions.
